Girls and boys basketball approaches fast

Both girls and boys basketball seasons are starting up soon.

Girls basketball tryouts were on November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th of 2020.

Boys basketball tryouts are going to be held on November 16th and 17th of 2020.

Our Varsity girls basketball coach, Mariani, says that our last seasons have been not bad.

These teams are filled with amazing young talent.

The last few seasons have also been full of “good accomplishments.”

They get better every year Mariani says.

But, this season is going to be different due to Covid-19.

“There will be limitations to for fans and families. There will be less players and we have to deal with it.”

The boys basketball coach, Pearson, is also excited for this upcoming season.

Some of his last seasons have been “challenging at times.”

But, this is a new year, with new athletes, and new talent at Highland High School.

Pearson also said, “Even at the challenging times, they become rewarding as a coach.”

The hard times are fulfilled with many lessons in the game, and in life.

He loves to see his athletes grow and build strong relationships with one another’s throughout their time together.

As well as the girls basketball coach, Pearson thinks that this year will be different.

“There is uncertainty for this season.”

With Covid-19, there is much uncertainty within all activities because there is such a high risk.

But, he is happy to be working with a “group of kids that all like each other.”

Basketball at Highland High School may be different this year, but our athletes will pull through and be the best they can be.
