Pocatello High School May be Changing Their Name
This form of racism is effecting and hurting people.

Pocatello High School has always been the Indians and their mascot has always worn a headress.
But, we are in need of serious change because Native Americans and their culture have been disregarded for decades.
Though it is not so obvious, this is a form of racism that may hurt the people around us.
Pocatello is not the only one with a contreversial history of disrespecting Native Americans.
For example, the Washington Redskins have dropped their name, logo, and merchandise this year.m
This is a great sign of change that has needed to happen for far too long.
We can make a difference by standing up for what is right.

To me the mascot is not racist, but everyone can be entitled to their own opinion. Here’s mine. Pocatello High School’s mascot has been around for almost 100 years, it’s basically part of their history. It doesn’t necessarily need to change.
I can see how some people may think the mascot is racist, but I personally dont think it is. I always thought of it as an honoring to the Indians, like when you name yout kid after someone who means alot to you. I don’t believe we are disrespecting anyone.
I agree with both comments by Quanesha and Cameron. I believe that “Washington Redskins” was racist, but “Poky Indians” didn’t reach anywhere near that level, or was racist at all. People are entitled to their own opinions about it but I personally feel that Indians isn’t an offensive term and is more honoring than shaming the Native Americans. I feel as though part of Poky’s culture is gone and I don’t even go there.
