The debate club is cool

Dalton Derie, Club editor

Speech and debate is an underrated club here at Highland. This club allows kids to compete with a team without the physical demands of a sport like football or wrestling. Debate gives kids the chance to use your mind to beat your opponents. That also means that it requires a lot of brain power. This activity requires a lot mental strength. You have to be able to take on high pressured situations and turn them to one in your favor. As someone who was on the team, I know that all of the work that you put into it, will be worth it. The more effort that you put in, will help you do better in competitions.

There are three debate types and several speech events, so there is a lot to try out, which really gives team members the chance to find what they really like. The team is made up of one of the best teams in Highland. Everyone is very helpful and willing to give advice to others that need help. All around, it is a really fun team, which makes competitions much more fun.

In order to join the club, you need to talk to Mrs. Christensen. She will give you all in the information you need to get started.

The debate club is a lot of fun and you can learn a lot from it.
