Highland is a part of the climbing club! This is a new club that welcomes all who are interested. Not only is this a club for Highland, but it is open for all high schools. The head of this club is Mike Sullivan, so if you want more information he is the person to talk to. You can find him in room B74. Climbing club takes place every Wednesday from 8-9 at ISU’s Reed’s gym. To participate in the club, the cost is 15 dollars. The club started on Wednesday November 6th, so they have been going on for about a month now. Everyone is invited and encouraged to join the club as it is a lot of fun.

If you have never been climbing before, it is definitely something to try out. Reed’s gym has a massive, 5,500 square foot wall. It is 125 feet wide and 35 feet tall. Not only that, but it has a 25 foot, horizontal overhang. This wall features 19 top rope stations, 17 leading climbing routes, and 4 rappelling stations. The wall has a variety of difficulties, ranging from easy to expert. These different walls are made so that everyone of every experience level can climb and learn. This gives people the chance to learn how to climb and eventually climb at various ranges as they please.

Abby Christensen is a senior at Highland. Like most others, she was unaware that we even had a climbing club. “It sounds like a cool club, but I don’t know if I would enjoy it very much,” she responded when asked if she would join the club. The climbing club is an exciting and a little bit intimidating club. People are unsure if it is right for them, but the best way to find out is to join the club and find out.
