The robotics club is a fun club for people that want to be apart of something. this is a cool and fun way to get scholarships to some great schools. The original founder of the robotics club was Mark Edwards. Mark Edwards was a physics teacher over at Pocatello High school. He started a club for students to interact and have fun building robots. Mr. Mike Sullivan thought the same as Edwards. Sullivan said, “I think it’s an exciting opportunity to help kids solve problems and to help kids cooperate with each other.” If you have been in the robotics club you will be eligible for thousands of dollars of scholarships. The club has robot fights every once in a while. Sullivan said, “Team Tator, made a fast and efficient frisbee-shooting robot.” One student involved in the club was senior Andrew Bringhurst. “The coolest robot I saw was a robot that would go out of its way to disrupt the other robots’ paths. This is incredibly mean, because the way the robots work is: you set a certain programmed path of moves. Meaning it doesn’t know where it is, it only knows to move a certain direction and then do a certain thing. So if you throw it off course a tiny bit, it won’t be able to get to its correct landing spot, thus completely destroying their robot. The thing about this robot is it had sensors and could easily tell where it was. this made it possible for it to return to what it was doing after destroying all the other robots on the field,” Bringhurst said. “If you think that you would like to join the robotics club, Sullivan said that “if you want to join the club then you will have to come over and get an application and fill it out, and get it back to me by September 18. I’ll run them to the counselors at Poky High.”
