The live-action of the Disney hit “Aladdin” hit the theaters in 2019, 27 years after the original animated film was released in 1992. The newer version stars Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Will Smith as Genie.

The reviews came back favoring the 1992 film, with it receiving 4.6 stars with 293 reviews, in comparison with the 2019 film getting 4.4 stars and 2,723 reviews, according to the google profiles of the films. Personally, I would rate the live-action rendition with 4.8 out of 5 stars, and I prefer it over the 1992 film because there is an extra song added in, and there are more scenes involved to add a little bit of backstory. The directors also decided to add more characters to it than the original film which makes it more interesting.

They kept the music consistent with both films, with the exception of adding in “Speechless” for the iconic character, Jasmine.  The song talks about how Jasmine is tired of everyone telling her what to do and telling her that she needs to stay quiet. Throughout the movie, there is smaller reprise sections of “Speechless” and “One Jump Ahead.”

Aladdin (2019) is available to watch on Disney+, as well as the ability to rent or purchase the film on YouTube. It is $3.99 to rent for three days, and $22.99 for purchase. It’s definitely worth watching because it is like the original, with a little more added in. The way they seamlessly added relationships between the original and new characters amazed me. This movie is recommended for all age groups. It has magic, as well as sad, uplifting, and intriguing scenes.
