Van Orden’s cross country team

Van Orden’s first year as head coach

This is Highland High School teacher Van Orden’s first year as head coach. He said that being the head coach and him having a different training style from other coaches makes this season unique.

Van Orden said that the Chalice meet was the most memorable because they had to run around a steep creek four times. According to him, Kaden Thomas actually belly flopped into the mud.

Van Orden stated that he believes “Jacob Van Orden could definitely run at a college level and meet.”

Van Orden said he is excited about  the girls team being in 3rd place right now.

Van Orden said that he wished he could redo the Tiger Grizz meet. He thinks he could have been easier on the teams and let them rest more so they could have done better.

Van Orden said that his own coach, Becky Sondag is what inspired him to coach and do what he does. Van Orden said he has some of his best memories of his life running for Highland varsity team back in 1995 – ’97.

Grace Kosmicki said that our Highland team is unique from other seasons because they team are closer and running more miles.

Tiffany Smith describes this season as really successful so far.

The cross country teams are thriving right now. Hopefully the girls team makes it to state this year. Keep running, Highland cross country.
